The Fifth International Marine Protected Areas Congress (IMPAC5) presents Ocean Festival, a free two-day, all-ages festival celebrating the sea at the Jack Poole Plaza on 3-4 February 2023.
Ocean Festival will feature live music, art, films, storytelling, interactive displays, and activities to connect people to the vibrant marine wildlife and ecosystems of the Arctic, Atlantic, and Pacific coasts and raise awareness about the importance of vigorously protecting the global ocean for generations to come.
Ocean Festival Highlights include a musical performance by Ta'Kaiya Blaney with the Boom Booms, storytelling of the Orca Chief by Roy Henry Vickers with musical performances by the Chinook SongCatchers.
"IMPAC5 is an opportunity to bring together Indigenous Peoples and cultures from around the world to embrace a collaborative approach and learn from Indigenous leadership in ocean conservation. We are grateful to the Host First Nations —xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) — for welcoming us into their traditional territories for this Congress." — IMPAC5
