PARLIAMENT OF THE WORLD'S RELIGIONS SACRED MUSIC CONCERT

Native Rock Music artist, Robby Romero, will join the Indigenous Peoples' Program during the 2023 Parliament of the World's Religions. This year's Convening theme is, "A Call to Conscience: Defending Freedom and Human Rights."

Robby is scheduled to perform at the Parliament's Sacred Music Concert on Thursday, August 17th. On Friday, August 18th, he will perform and address the Climate Assembly on Climate Action, Religious Freedom, and the Protection of Sacred Sites.

Programming for the 2023 Parliament Convening will be hosted at McCormick Place Lakeside Center, Chicago, IL, from August 14-18, 2023, in the traditional homelands of the Bodéwadmik (Potawatomi), Hoocąk (Winnebago/Ho'Chunk), Jiwere (Otoe), Nutachi (Missouria), and Baxoje (Iowas); Kiash Matchitiwuk (Menominee); Meshkwahkîha (Meskwaki); Asâkîwaki (Sauk); Myaamiaki (Miami), Waayaahtanwaki (Wea), and Peeyankihšiaki (Piankashaw); Kiikaapoi (Kickapoo); Inoka (Illini Confederacy); Anishinaabeg (Ojibwe), and Odawak (Odawa).

Indigenous Peoples have made significant contributions to the Parliament of the World's Religions through meaningful interactions during major international gatherings, United Nations programs, and advocacy efforts on pressing issues such as Religious Freedom and protecting Sacred Sites. Whether through cross-cultural dialogues among young people or activism led by respected Indigenous Elders and Wisdom Keepers, everyone is encouraged to participate and engage in the purposeful promotion of Indigenous rights, issues, and cultures.

Prominent Indigenous leaders, such as Onondaga Faithkeeper, Oren Lyons, Chief Arvol Looking Horse, members of the Native American Church, and Native Children's Survival Youth Ambassador, Ta'Kaiya Blaney, have addressed Parliament Convenings throughout their history. Global leaders, including His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, UN Messenger of Peace Jane Goodall, Nobel Peace Laureates Desmond Tutu and Shirin Ebadi, and President Jimmy Carter, have also spoken at these events.
